City level winners of ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition - 2011-12’ from South Zone (Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh) felicitated in Bangalore


Winning candidates of English and Kannada essay competition, shortlisted from across 20 cities  Bangalore, Belgaum, Bellary, Bijapur, Davanagere, , Gulbarga, Hassan, Hubli & Dharwad , Hyderabad, Mandya, Mangalore & Manipal, Mysore, Raichur, Shimoga, Tumkur,  Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam felicitated in Bangalore

Part of the annual national level school essay competition organized by the Tata Group in 8 languages, where nearly 2 million students across 150 cities have participated from nearly 5,000 schools

Bangalore, July 22, 2012: The Tata Group recognized the city level winners from the South Zone (Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh) of the 6th annual ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition - 2011-12’, today, at Wings House, #236, 5th Main, 2nd Block, HRBR Layout in Bangalore. The winners were selected from a competitive pool of students through 20 city level competitions conducted in 6 cities for English and 14 cities for Kannada.

The English edition of the essay competition was held across cities Bangalore, Hyderabad, Manipal & Mangalore, Vijayawada, Hubli and Visakhapatnam with 274 schools participating while the Kannada edition was held across cities Bangalore,(Hubli – Dharwad), Mysore, Gulbarga, Belgaum, (Mangalore- Udupi), Davanagere, Bellary, Shimoga, Tumkur, Bijapur, Raichur, Mandya, Hassan with 451 schools participating; attracting a total of over 1.09 lakh students.

The awards ceremony was held at Wings House, #236, 5th Main, 2nd Block, HRBR Layout in Bangalore and the chief guest at the event Padma Shri Mrs. Nomita Chandy awarded trophies, gifts and certificates to the winners of Kannada Essay competition. Mr. Ryan Pinto CEO of Ryan International group of Institutions awarded trophies, gifts and certificates to the winners of English Essay competition. The winning essays at the city level will be further judged by a prominent jury for national level recognition.

The theme for the 2011-12 edition of the essay competition was ‘How can you make the world you live in-your Home, Your City, Your Nation- a cleaner and greener Place’. The essay entries received from the enthusiastic participants featured thought provoking and inspiring ideas which clearly showcased the vision, compassion and conviction of today’s young Indians.

Speaking on the occasion, Padma Shri Ms. Nomita Chandy said, "I must congratulate all the winners of this essay competition. It is a pleasure to be with you all. I have known Tata Group for a long time.

They have always been silent givers to the society. They have done so much for the underprivileged of the society. I congratulate them for such an initiative. The ideas of today will stimulate the better future for the country.”

I would like also like to congratulate Tata Group to come up with such initiative which helps in igniting young minds of India. I must say to you all that you have what India needs.
